CORPORATE PROFILE

Human Development and Public Health Initiative(HUDPHI) is a scientific and research-based organization working to improve the quality of health care delivery in Nigeria through strengthening health systems and capacity of health care providers.

BACKGROUND

HUDPHI was founded to address gaps existing in health care systems within developing countries.

In most parts of Africa and other developing countries, inadequate infrastructures and lack of requisite capacity have remain the bane of quality health care delivery. Even where the facilities and facilities and manpower exist, the services are inaccessible to the vulnerable group especially the poor and people living in rural and underdeveloped areas. As rightly noted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005, unless urgent investments are made in developing effective health systems, most of the Millennium Development Goals will not be met.

The limitations of current health care systems are becoming increasingly apparent with the need to expand access to TB, Malaria and Antiretroviral treatment to most parts of Africa. This need for expansion and scale up of access must come with an even more urgent need to put in place sustainable health systems that must be adapted to accommodate long-term treatment and care for all forms of diseases with public health implications.

At HUDPHI we believe strongly that health care interventions built on the foundations of effective and sustainable systems can guarantee quality life for the people and increase life expectancy rather than just acute, emergency interventions, as is most often the practice in the resource poor countries.

Our Mission

To contribute towards increasing life expectancy in Nigeria through the conduct of targeted applied and operational research to generate data for crucial and evidence based interventions that will promote disease prevention, control, and eradication within our communities.

Our Vision

To progressively sustain, effective and efficient systems on which Nigeria's health care delivery programme can thrive positively.

Our Goals

HUDPHI is working judiciously towards achieving the set mission and vision through the following goals:

1. Develop human capacity to support quality health care delivery and management, especially at community, primary, and secondary health care levels.

2. Conduct health systems and operational research targeted at reducing morbidity and mortality diseases and other health conditions with high burden in the country.

3. Carry out advocacy and health education programmes it improve the health and life expectancy of Nigerians.

4. Collate, analyze, document and disseminate available data on health research and services in a format that will enhance better health policies and interventions.

Our strategy

To achieve its mission and goals, HUDPHI:

1. Conducts health systems research, finding answers to questions on how to improve health system and make health care affordable and accessible.

2. Conduct training for various cadre of health care workers as part of overall health systems strengthening.

3. Runs a well equipped resource center with capacity to provide relevant information and support to researchers working on various clinical and behavioral research programmes.
